Treatment of Prisoners.

[United Press Association.] Sydney, This Day, In consequence of statements published about the rigorous treatment of youthful prisoners, tbe Government has obtained a report from its medioal adviser Professor Anderson Stuart, who says that the evidence on the whole is in favour of the present system, and there is certainly no immediate need of alteration, and there is not sufficient reason to consider it injurious to the health or development of the prisoners.^ The Government proposes to carry out a suggestion made by Dr .-tuart that in order to set the matter at rest tbe weight of the prisoners be taken daring the next six months.
