[United Press Association.] Dunedin, April 26. The Hon Mr Cftdman paid a visit to the coal mines at Green Island this morning. In the afternoon "he received deputations. One of these was from coal merchants, venueßting an alteration of the charges for carriage of coal on the railways. Captain Fox pointed out that for Newcastle coal for the first ten miles the charge was 10s Bd, and for 100 miles 13s. The charges for "West Coast coal for the came distances were _2s 6d, 8s 4d and 10s 2d. Mr Cadman said he eonld hold out no hope of an alteration being made.
