Further Particulars. [United Press Association.! Calcutta, April i! 3. The Siege of Cliitral began on March 4th and ended on Audi l'Jth. Tho garrison had to subsist on very inferior food. The enemy's trenches were constructed up to within 40 yards of the gate of the fort. Tho besiegers sot lire to a gun tower and ft'so endeavoured to burn down a water tower, but in each case the (lames were extinguished before they obtained a firm hold. Several sorties were made, and in one of theso the besieged recaptured a summer house and exploded the enemy's mine. The enemy lost 00 men, 3d being bayoneted while Dr Hobertson had 21' men killed and 28 wounded. After this reverse Shir Afgbul and Umra Khan retired to Broz lower down tho valley, and a number of their followers iled. Heavy losses occurred through wonderful shooting from' trenches around the fart when the party was besieged with Amir Ul Mulk. Dr llobcttson arrested the latter for conspiring with Umra Khan to attack tho British. Colonel Kelly roicbed Chitral on tho 20th mat.
