In view of tha shelving of the Governor's Salary Reduction Bill by the Council, and the non-receipt by the Government of any oflicial information regarding tho steps being taken to appo.nt a successor to Sir It Duff, tho Premier has cabled to the AgentGeneral stating that tha new Governor would have to accept the position on condition that the allowances, amounting to 11,750 per annum were to be discontinued in tha future. To a previous cable the Agent-General had replied that instead of the Governor, sbip going a begging, no offer had yet been made by the Imperial Government to anyone.
