Land and Income Tax.

In Committee on the Land and Income Tax Bill a proposal Avas made that the £500 exemption should apply to mortgagees as Avell as to owners. The Premier agreed that in mortgages up to £1000 the jfsoo should be deducted and this Avas carried. In the section providing for the Income Tax the Premier moved that the tax on income derived from property should be doubled, as folloAvs :— Bd in the pound up to £1200, ls in the pound up to £2200, and ls 4d in the pound over the latter amount. The motion Avas carried.
