Banquet to Mr McKenzie.
nn P ALMEnsT0 -N South, This Day; 1 he Minister of Lands was entertained ab a banquet at Shag Point last evening. There was a largo attendance including the Colonial Ireasurer and several other members of Parliament. The Colonial Treasurer responding to the toast of the Ministry expressed his opinion that there was no necessity for the colony to borrow at present, or for some time to come. Ho informed the meeting that the New Zeal.nd 3A por ceut stock now approached 1004. It was oyer 100-fc, a thing which had never hap pened betore. Regarding the surplus for the past financial year be declared thab not one payment had been kopb back by the Government and thab its liabilities ab bhe end of bhe financial year wore nover so low as ab present. The toast of the guest of the evening was received with enthusiasm.
