Amongst the most recent arrivals at the Zoological Gardens are a p -ir of wa deroos. j The wauderoo is one of the lower apes, i which seem in appearance mush more I human than some of the higher opes, e.g., the gibbon, on whose behalf a near kinship to man has been claimed. The f ital bar to it 3 elevation, however, is its tail. The liquorice plant is chiefly grown on the banks of the Tigris ami Euphrates; in localities where for three months during the prevalence of hot winds the temperature reaches 10-l deg., aud for three months often registers 30 deg. below at night. The remaining six months are moderate and healthy.
