It is reported that the Q teen rejeoted the list of Birthday honours proposed by Mr Gladstone. At the head of che list was the name of jEarl Spencer, who, it was suggested, should be created a marquis.

Mr Gladstone, in a letter to the press, says that he regards the Free Ohuroh of Soothnd as genuinely representing the Scottish reformation.
