Wellington, May 3. The case of Alexander S wtt, who is uader sentence of death for the Waikomiti murder was a?ain before the Cabinet this afternoon! Ministers also spent some hours this evening considering the case. It is understood that a decision has beeu arrived at, but nothing will be made public until the decision of the Cabinet has been communicated to his Excellency.
T. W. Manifold, a competitor at the drapers' athletic sports, was accidentally shoe in the leg by the starter this af ternoou, A small piece of le:id had remained ia the pistol and this struck him in the oilf. The wound is not serious.
After hearing counsel in the appeal oaße Queen v. Scott, judgment was reserved. Chhistchurch, May 3. To-aay a man was charged with having wild ducks in his possession before the open* ing of the shooting season. It was shown that the ducks hid been shot last season, aud had been kept in a freezing chamber, but the Acclimatisation Society aaked the Bench to decide whether thia was a lawful excuse. The Bench dismissed the case, holding that persons had a perfect right to send ducks t) be frczeu witnin season, and thut it would be absurd to attempt to prevent him taking them out when he pleased.
