FOOTBALL.

ALBION V. NELSON. {By "Nemo.') The second of the season's engagements came off at Trafalgar Park on Saturday afternoon, when representatives of the above-named clubs again met to try conclusions with each other. The ground was , in capital condition, and favoured with line weather, it was a wonder that there were not more lovers of football to witness the game. At a quarter past three Nelson started by kicking off to Bird, who returned well into touch. From the throw out Nelson (blue) forwards with Preshaw to the fore rushed the ball to the Albions (maroon) 25, only to be sent back by a good ran from Lorimer and a kick from Bird, with the result that Nelson was forced i down. Miller failing to take the kick out the Albions again found themselves forced , back to the 23 flag. Some good passing - was now shown by the Nelson backs, ' Broad narrowly missing a pot. This brought the Maroons to their bearings, and 1 the forwards led by Whiting and Hale once 1 more got into the Blues' 25, some offside ' play spoiliug the .show of scoring. From 1 touch Sigley secured the leather, and from ' a series of passes in which Bolton, Broad, i Preshaw, and Shallcrass took part, the i latter secured iirst try for Nelson, the kick at goal being a failure. The kick out . brought nothing fresh, Broad and Levieu bringing the ball back to within a few feet of the goal line. Bird came to the rescue , with a good kick to centre. The Nelson were equal to the occasion, Cresswell and Catley rushing the ball back to the 25 ilag again. Scrums were the order of the day, until Bolton coming through picked up and passed to Sigley, he in turn transferring to Shallerass, thence to Broad and Ihompson, Lunn eventually crossing the line, the referee, however, disallowed the try on the grounds of being held. The Maroona rallied, Simpson and Clear taking the ball well down the field, Preshaw here secured the leather and after making a capital run passed to Luon, who in turn passed to Cresswell, who secured the second try by a dashing run round the opposing backs. No goal resulted. From this to the end of the spell Nelson had things all their own way. Cresswell once more crossed the line, from which Broad placed a splendid goal from a difficult angle. The second spell .started *yell for the Albion?, Watson anil Grant taking the ball well into Nelson territory. However a loDg kick by Lunn soon brought the play back to the centre, the forwards working down to the 25 flag. Bird relieved and Dee taking advantage of a loose bit of play on the Blues' part sent the t leath>.r back to the BlueB 1 line. The Albions now seemed to wake up and to the end of the spy 11 all of them worked hard, making desperate attempts to score but without avail. Thorn once more oleared the line. Bolton and Broad taking the play to Reds goal. Grant, however, saved by kicking into touch. Just before time, Levien after a splendid run from the centre touched down between the posts, Broad again converting, thus leav« ing Nelson victors by fourteen points to nil. The game was fast and interesting throughout. Mr Liltlejohn actccj as referee and gave complete satisfaction as usual, Messrs)

Harper and Oldersbaw acted as toucc«line judges.
