The Pall Mall Gazette tb .tes tba-. when Mr Gladstone left Downing-street oi the day on which the Home Rule Bill was read a second time Townsend was lying in wait close at hand to shoot him, but the strong resemblance which the Premier bore to Townsend s father caused the would-be assailant to pause. Inquiries as to Townsend's antecedents show that there is insanity in the family.
