For some time past Mr Sutton, a mining expert representing a Melbourne syndicate has bean in this distriot tor the purposi of examining the Wakamarina Gorge Claim, with a view ol developing it with Viotorian capital. On his firßt visit the Bpur wheel unaooountably smashed as steam wbb put on to work the pumps. A new wheel was ob tamed, end pumping resumed on Saturday, but on Bunday tvening the shaft broke, Foul play waa suspected, and to-day Alexander Waller, who was in charge of tha engine at tho time of the last breakdown, wjb arrested on the inlormation oi Mr E. Purser, charged with wilfully damaging tha maohinory. As theories exist that there are parties Hostile to the success of the present Company great interest centres in tho case. Auckland, Maroh 29, The dead body of a woman was found at the water's edge ou the Cheltenham beach, Devonport, to-day, having evidently ;beeu washed ashore by the sea, The remaius have not been identified, and nothing is yet known as to ihow the woman came by her death, It is stated that the Champion Whaloboat Raco dispute may be settled without further intervention of the Court. The suggestion has been made that the matter be decided by the Committee ot the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association.
