THE TORPEDO CORPS IN NELSON.

To the Editor of the " Evening Mail."

SiK~Your article of Saturday evening as ! to the probability of Captain Falconer und , his staff beiug oalled away from Nelson before shootiug away that very inconvenient piece of rock near tho Albion wharf certainly deserves credit from owners, captains, aud others interested iv its removal previous to the departure of tho Torpedo crew and their gear. It appears that since they have beeu iv Nolsju they have dove wonderfully well, for where there was but five feet of water at low tide, they have succeeded iv takiug off so great au amount of rock that they now have twelve feet, whioh is oenaiuly a great difference to the good, although tho undertaking was thought impossible by some whose business it is to pass through thut particular place very frequently. I feel confidently sure that if our ever ready Mayor was asked by some one more interested than the writer he would intercede, and very pro • bably succeed ia convincing Mr Seddou of the desirableness of having this work completed before Captain Falconer and his men aro called away. Their expenses here are as small as in auy port in New Zealand, and this rook in question is very inconvenient to masters and others in coming to or going from the different wharves. The cost would bo so very trilling compared to the beneficial results that it is absolutely ueoossary to take j advantage of the opportunity that will i uover ocour iv Noison again. j I am, &c, | C H.
