Supreme Court.
_. Wanganui, This Day. * William Noble and Harry Laing were brought up at the Supreme Court this morning and convicted of robbery. The former was sentenoed to two years and the latter to one year, both with hard labour. For setting fire to the Commercial Hotel Franois Kenney was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment with hard labour.
New Plymouth, This Day. At the Supreme Court a oase of slander has been heard in whioh Thos. Lloyd claimed £500 damages from Cornelius Casey, the latter having stated that the plaintiff had burnt down a house which was insured. The oase was conducted this morning, when jury gave a verdict for the plaintiff with damages £250. Mr Samuel, who appeared for the defendant, applied to the Court to Btay proceedings on account of the excessive dama* ges. The Judge agreed to hear the applioai tion to stay proceedings this afternoon.
