Mr W. P. Reeves is making a tour on th© East < Coast of tho North Island in search of information. Apparently he is not confining himself with matters relating to his own department, as according to a telegram published to-day he is not only about to inspect I*l ative schools, hut he is going to find out the nature of the country, inquire into all the difficulties of the Native laad- question, and visit the Maorios who are stricken down with typhoid fever. This is very energetic, but Mr Reeves seems to be rather poaching on other people's preserves. Mr Mackenzie and Mr Oadman are the persons who are supposed to attend to land and Maoris. Perhaps Mr Reeves is educating himself in case he should ever become Native Minister or Minister of Lands. If, however, each Minister by way of self instruction is to interfere in the departments of all the others, matters will become a little involved. The affairs of the Colony will fall into a terrible state if Mr Seddon takes it into his head to qualify himself to act as Minister of Education, Mr Mackenzie as AttorneyGeneral, and Mr Cadman as Colonial Treasurer. If all the Ministers are to follow the example set by Mr Reeves the bill for travelling expenses will be even greater than ever, and the educational process will be decidedly expensive to the Colony.
