London, June 4. At a meeting on the land question Mr Davitt defended Mr Henry George against an attack made on his principles by Mr Gladstone. TnitJt, states that Prince George of Wales will be created Duke of Sussex shortly. Sir F. D. Bell denies the statement that he is parleying with France and Germany for a reduction of oable rates. A capital start was effected for the Derby. Bathbeal was the first away, but Orwell with Kirkham quickly appeared in front and led for a quarter of a mile. Kirkham then assumed the sole command for a furlong; further, but Orwell in the meantime headed Sainfoin, and Golden Gate came up next, Whea the mile had been covered Kirkham had dropped back to fifth after his brief spurt, and at the top of the hill Sainfoin took up the running, Kirkham last. At the distance Surefoot was beaten, and Le Nord 1 made a desperate rush but Sainfoia stalled it off and came in first by a quarter of a length, Orwell was a neck behind Le Nord and a head in front of Surefoot.
