His lawyer said "yes," but the negro constable said " no." Disregarding the latter Xdtten started for the door, when the negro fired, killing him instantly. On this a desperate fight commenced. The black fallows present delivered a perfect volley of ballets, and when the smoke cleared away And the firing ceased it was found that three -white men were killed and three badly wounded. A negro had also been killed by : a , titray bullet. The negro justice and his Constable mounted their horses and fled. The negroes,, it is said, had been waiting an opportunity for this massacre a long time. ;
