" The feudal system," remarked one budding Maoaulay, " lived in the reign of William I ;" " Magna Oharta," sagaciously observed another, " was a fleet formed in the reign of John to invade EDgland;" " The discovery of America took place in the Stuart period ; it was that the people signed a paper to have William 111, lor their King. " A juvenile punßter in the ! Fifth Standard wittily remarked that " Woiaey was for many yearß Henry VIII.'s soul adviser." The following answers to questions in elementary science and object .lesßons are skill more amusing : "Sound is oonveyed through the air by a number of bookß Btood upon their ends at equal distances, so that if you knock the first down, etc." "Wind is air in a hurry." "The ohief forces in nature are solid liquids and gases." "When the diaphragm is pulled down the muscles of the arm otop contracting. " " Because the arterial blood changes into venous blood, that is why the skin is sometimes moist." •' Blood-vessels, veins, and artilleries." "The sternum is at the back. " •• The gas triok juice. " " Digestion is the maohine that keeps the stomaoh rolling round and round. " One scholar, in answer to the question, " Describe the aotion of the heart, " made answer, •• The heart is deceit" ful above all things. "
