Chribtchtjbch, October 15. The earthquake of Friday morning was severely felt at the Hanmer Plaina. Two heavy shooks came at 2 20 a.m. followed by several lighter ones. No serious damage was done. J. W. Heath, shoemaker, at Rangiora, died suddenly this morning, aged 70. He at one time served in the army and had medals for the Afghan war of 1839. Auckland, Ootober 15. The Northcote Hotel was burned down at 2.30 a.m. this morning, Qhe building and furniture were insured for about £2000 in the South British, Norwich Union, and North German offices. The owner is Mr Mobs Davis, who states he will lose considerably over the insurance. Michael Sheehan who attempted suioide on Friday last is recovering. Dunedin, October 15. George's Victoria hotel at Naseby and the adjoining premises of Evans, chemist, have been destroyed by fire, and the Bank of New Zealand and other buildings damaged. Insurances £400 in the National and £515 in the Victoria. Wellington, October 15. The Inspector of police has received a telegram stating that a rabbiter named Galbraith is supposed to have been drowned on Thursday last in Oahangi river. The maa's horse saddled, but with stirrups and leathers missing hag been, found about two miles below the crossing and a number of ferrets which Galbraith was carrying have been found drowned at about the same place. The body has not been recovered.
