THE OWEN SILVER AND GOLD LEASES.
Messrs Cuff and Smythe, of Christchurch, have just returned frem a visit to the Owen reefs, Mr Cuff, who has lately bought the Enterprise property, made a thorough inspection of the mine and battery and is j well satisfied with his purchase. We believe it is his intention to call for tenders for driving 500 feet to cut the reefs that are known to exist on the property and on which no prospecting has been done so far. It ia calculated that 6or 7dw ts to the ton will make this a valuable property with the large quantity of stone known to exist, Mr Smythe who on behalf of a syndicate haß purchased a large interest in some of the . Owen silver leases, inspected a very nice outcrop of galena in the Peru, and arranged for opening up and commencing work ia the Silver King, the next lease to the j Welcome. Work in the Welcome is going J ahead, the manager having started to cross j cut to cut the lode. The Waimea has one (
