Thkbe appears to be every probability of a little excitement in the House to-night, when the Premier means to put his foot down, and to insist upon all those who on any grounds whatever desire to keep the present Ministry in power, supporting him by their votes. It will be a motley group that mustevß in the Government lobby. Protectionists who hate the Government but like their polioy of taxation, Ministerialists who were supporters of the Government but hate their polioy and consider that they themselves have been shamefully Used by those they placed in power, together with any others upon whom pressure can be brought to bear — altogether a following to be proud of 1 With the assist* ance of these patties the Premier and his colleagues will retain their seats. AT the R.M. Court this morning a plaintiff got into the bos to give bis evidence, but on being asked for 3s, the bearing fee, he replied that he had not that amount about him. A social gathering was held in the Wesleyan Sunday Schoolroom last night, when there was a Christmas Tree,' from which each of the children who took part in " Under the Palms " were provided with & prize. There was music and singing daring the evening, and after the prizes were distributed, about 60 adults sat down to an excellent supper provided by Mr Snodgrass, to whom a vote of thanks was passed for his liberality. The party was a most pleasant one.

Mb Nathan, the District Manager of the New Zealand Acoidont Insurance Company, relates a very singular incident that has recently taken plaoe in Westfand. Some two months ago a labouring man insured with the Company in the sum of £300, and immediately after died. In the ussal coarse of events the claim was sent in to the local agent, aad an intimation forwarded to the solicitors aoting for the widow that the amount was available. Before, however, the money was paid over, a commumcation was received frem another peraoa in Yiotoria, claiming to be the widow of the insured, and stating that she would in the coarse of a few daya arrive on the Coast, armed with full documentary evidence sufficient to establish her claim as the widow of th« deceased. The result of this painful case will be looked forward to with muoh interest.
