Wellington, June 8. The steamer Wakatipu which arrived last night from Sydney brought 62 Chinese, 52 being for the West Coast. These were traoshipped into the Eoranui this morning, and left for their destination immediately after. There was no disturbance of any kind. The Gazette^ notifies that English starlings and Australian magpies are protected under the Animals Protection Act. Chemists are notified that the preparation known as "Get There" is plaoed in the sohedule of the Poisons Act. Fourteen estates of deceased persons were placed under the charge of the Pubho Trustee during the month of May. Napier, June 8. Mr Faulkner, the proprietor of a ooach factory, and a large employer of labor, has given notice to reduce the wages by sixpence a day in consequence of the pressure of the new tariff on artiolea in the manufacture of carriages. He says his men muat either do more work or take leas wages, or he will be compelled to import the finished articles required in his trade. Dcnedin, June 8. The Coroner's jury found that the stack fire at Tarras station was wilfully caused and added a rider that grave suspicion waa attaobed to James BfoKenzie, farmer, of Tarras, and John B. Mokenaie, his servant.
