The attention of Competitors is d^yn to the following CONDITIONS, as any story failing to comply with them will be disqualified : — (1). The scene of the story must be laid in New Zealand. (2.) With the exception of this limit, the character of the story is entirely left to the author. (3.) The story may bo written by two or more people collaborating. (4.) It must be of such a length as to occupy no f , less than eight columns, nor more than sixteen columns of the Evening Mail. Beyond eight columns, however, length will not of itself be considered a merit. Calculations may be made on the basis of 1800 words to the column. (5.) It must be legibly written, with wide spaces between the lines, and on only one side of the paper, t.ho several sheets of which must bo numbered consecutive!}*. (G.). Every story sent in must bear a ' norn de plume,' and the author's real name and address must also be sent enclosed in an envelope with the • norn de plume ' outside. The envelope will only be opened if the story gains the prize. The author's name and address will then be published. (7.) The successful story will belong solely to the Proprietors of the Evening Mail, and will be published in their Christmas Supplement. . (8.) Manuscripts will not be returned unless accompanied in the first instance by stamped and addressed envelope. (9.) The decision as to the merit of the stories arrived at by the Editor of the Evening Mail, or by auch person or Committee of persons as he may call in to assist him, must be considered by all competitors as final.
