DESOLATION EVERYWHERE.

STOCK STARVING. Rotobua, Sunday. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at 11.5 this morning, and shortly afterwards volumes of steam were seen rising from » new crater. The natives think the eruption is at Owhaki, southward of the Puora range. The disturbance appears to bo spreading towards Taupo. There was less activity at Tarawera yesterday, aud a clearer view could be obtained. There are numerous centres of activity. The bodies of the Haszard family and Mr JBainbridge were interred this afternoon. Mr P. M. Berry wires :— " The terraceß are gone and the whole dbss occupied by them and by Rotomahana is now a series of great volcanoes, and a grand and terrible spectacle. Huge boulders and showers of ashes are being thrown up by them. Tarawera, as far as we could see it, waß free from volcanic disturbance. We could nob see the site of the White Terrace for smoke and steam, but it can ii not exist. The Pink Terrace looks as if it had fallen iD. All the natives round Rotomahana musb have perished." TAUKANGA. Dr Hector ia of opinion that the dust that lies on the road will ultimately prove beneficial. The dust is heavy, and is just what the light soil of Tauranga requires. 16 is reported that White Island shows unusual signß of activity. Tauranga, This Day. A number of people just in from Te Puke and the Coast report that the whole district presents a desolate appearance, and that all the feed is completely ruined until next spring.
