PRODUCE M AR K ET .

(Christehuroh Press, March 6th.) Operations in this market are as yet comparatively unimportant, as farmers are BtiH busy threshing. For wheat the enquiry for local and intercolonial consumption is fairly strong, bat current prices do not leave any room for merchants to speculate for home shipment. In oats and barley a weaker feeling is manifest,, and buyers are holding off in anticipation of lower prices ruling. No large forward transactions have been reported in potatoes, doubtless this is owingto the uncertainty prevalent as to what the season's yield will be. Wheat — Prime milling is selling readily at 33 2d to 3s 3sd ; inferior milling, 2s lOd to 33 ; chickwheat is firm at 2s 8d to 2s 9d f.o.h. Oats are easier. Milling are quoted at 2s, . an.i bright short feed at Is lid; Tartarians and Danish are enquired for at Is lOi to 2s f.o.b. Barley — Maltinglines show a weaker ten- . dency, and sales are difficult to effect for prime at over 4s 6d f.0.b. ; feed parcels are sluggish at 2s to 2s 2d f.o.b. Peas— Blue Prussians are in good request at 2s lOd to 33, f.o.b. Beans — No sales are yet reported. Grass Seeds— Rye grass continues firm, machine-areßsed being readily quitted at 5s to 5s 3d, and for specially prime parcels are quoted at 4s to 4s 6d, f.o.b. Cocksfoot is scarcely so firm at 4d to 4£d in Lyttelton. Potatoes — Speculation is rife as to opening rates, bat in the absence o£ sales reliable rates cannot be quoted. Dairy Produce—Butter continues in good request at 9d to 10d, but weaker advices from outside marketg are to hand. Cheese has a weaker tendency at 4£d to s|i, f.o.b.
