Parliament, which at present stands prorogued to March 15th, will be called together early in May provided there is no dissolution, and it is understood that the Government will not ask for a dissolution. It has been stated that the Wellington Exhibition will result in a loss of £10,000. The Government, however, are very reticent on the subject, and will not say more than that there is a losa, but it is not yet known how much, aa the accounts have not yet been made up. There was a good deal of excitement this morning over another extension in the United Company's auriferous wash. At the University Senate the report of tha examiners for the Bowen prize essay recommended that tbe prize be awarded for the essay distinguished by the motto, " Cavendo Tutus," the writer of which proved to be Edward Hayter Cox, au Undergraduate of St. John's College. It was decided that the University Senate, at its rising, adjourn to meet at Wellington on tho last Wednesday in February, 1887.
