Tenders ara invited on behalf of the Queensland Government for a loan of one million five hundred thousand pounds, at 4 per cent., the minimum being fixed at £100, tenders to close on May llth. In the House of Commons last night, the question for modifying the rules of procedure came under discussion. The motion to enforce suspension for one sitting only, in case of disregard of the Speaker's ruling, was brought forward, but was negatived by a majority of thirty-six. Mr Henry Labouchere, member for Northampton, brought forward a motion having for its object the abolition of the hereditary principle in the House of Lords. Mr Gladstone speaking on the subject, stated that Her Majesty's Government recognised the necessity for reform in the Upper House. His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge, has been asked to preside at the farewell banquet which is to be given to Mr Murray Smith, on the occasion of his leaving England for Victoria. It is announced that Her Majesty has been pleased to create Lord Richard Grosvenor and Baron Kensington, Peers of the United Kingdom.
