The Croydon Lass sailed for Patea at high water this morning. The Grafton arrived at Westport at 8.30 a.m. to-day. The Richard and Mary was ballasted ♦ • day, and sail 3 for Greymouth to morrow. The Lady Barkly sailed on her usual weekly trip to Golden Bay yesterday afternoon. A number of coasting crafts took advantage of the fine weather yesterday, and pat to sea. A topsail schooner, supposed to be the Awaroa from Wanganui, ha 3 been signalled all the day. The Lyttelton left for Blenheim at 11 o'clock this morning. The Wallace sailed for Wellington this afternoon, and the Charles Edward for West Coast ports. - The Murray left Westport last evening, called at Greymouth this morning for the ootward San Francisco mail, and left again for Weatport same tide. She leaves Westport this evening, should arrive here tomorrow evening, and leave for Wanganui on Saturday. . The Taiaroa crossed the Manukau bar at 9 o'clock this morning, will arrive here to-morrow night, and sail for Picton and Wellington at 9 am. on Saturday with the outward San Francisco mail, taking passeagers and cargo to the Wanaka for New Plymouth and Manukau. The Wellington sailed for Picton and Wellington at 430 p.m. yesterday, and arrived at the latter port at 9.30 a.m. to-day. She leaves there again at 4 p.m. to-morrow, will arrive here on Saturday morning, and aaH for Dunedin direct by the same tide at 10 a.m. ,On Friday night last one of our coasting Tassels, while beating up the harbor, the night beiDg pitch dark, ran into another coasting craft, in trying to avoid a third one which was anchored in the fairway without her riding light out The damage sustained by both crafts was of so trifling a nature that we did not deem the occurrence worth a mere passing notice. Not so the Government, or rather the authorities here; a collision had occurred, and an inquiry into its cause must be held. Accordingly an inquiry was held yesterday before the Collector of Customs, and a large amount of evidence waa taken. This will be forwarded to Wellington for the perusal of those in charge of the Marine Department.
