In the District Court to-day, before His Honor Judge Broad, on the application of Mr Percy Adams, probate was granted to Mr H. Edwards, the sole executor under the will of the late Mrs Sarah Burns M'Rae, of Richmond.— On the motion of Mr Bunny an, order was granted for the discharge of Robert Henry M'Coombes, a debtor. At the request of a number of our readers we publish to-day the substance of a lecture delivered at the Hardy-street Wesleyau Church last Sunday evening by the Rev R. Bavin. It will be found on the fourth page. At a meeting of the Artillery Volunteers, held last evening, Corporal McCabe was elected second Lieutenant, vice Lieutenant Ashcroft resigned. A cricket match will be played at Wakefield to-morrow between the Normanby and Wakefield Clubs, and at the close of the game a team will be selected to play in the interprovincial match against Wellington, which will probably take place in Easter week. Mr. O'Rorke, the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, arrived from Auckland by the Taiaroa this morning. The other members are expected to-morrow, and the Commission will commence its sittings next week. We understand that a movement is being set on foot for the closing of all the shops in town at six o'clock on every day but Saturday. A large number of the principal shopkeepers have consented, and it is probable that the object aimed at will be achieved. A meeting of the members of the Aniseed Valley Copper Mining Company was held yesterday afternoon at the offices of Messrs Buxton and Co., when a favorable report was received, and it was resolved to raise an additional sum of £300 to proceed with the workings, the original shareholders to have the first opportunity of purchasing the new shares. We have to acknowledge the receipt of a pamphlet containing the regulations, &c, of the Sydney International Exhibition, which now lies at our office for the perusal of anyone who is desirous of seeiug it. The third competition by the City Rfltes for the mefat presented to the Company by Mr M'Gee took place at the Maitai Butts this morning, when Private Waddell secured first place with a score of 50, Pvt Crossman being second with 46.
