The followiug are additional particulars regardiug the men who were picked up by the ship Rangitikei and taken to Lyttelton* —When iu latitude _ north, longitude 23 west; on the sth Septetiibei*, the Rangitikei secured, two naked sailors frdm the feottdtu of _ boat fighting for their Uvea with tbe Battens of the boat against a shoal of sharks. They were the only survivors of six, the other four having been eaten by sharks. They belonged to the Portuguese barque Amerique* from which they had got adrift while looking for a seaman who had fallen overboard. When secured they had been on the bottom of the boat for fifty hours. Mr Job Best, the Secretary of the Dovedale Local Committee, has forwarded us the following:— The ninth anniversary of the Dovedale school took place on Monday, the llth instant. In the afternoon the children mustered in the school ground to enjoy themselves until four o'clock, when about 70 of them sat down to a good substantial tea, to which they did ample justice. The public tea was at five o'clock, when over 100 persons were present. The tables being cleared the, room was then filled to overflowing, and MrR. Sutcliffe was called to, the chair, and distributed the prizes, which the ReV S. Pooler of Motueka, who examined the children, had awarded, as follows:— First Class : Eliza Thorn, 1 ; Louisa Best, 2; Lilly SheppArd, 3. Second Class: Henry Thorn, 1; Ethel Win, 2, Thomas Smith, 3; Frederick Humphreys, 4; Margaret Kenyon, 5. Third Class: Edwin Aldridge, 1; Mary Burrell, 2; Ernest Win/3. Fourth Class : Mary Parkinson, 1 ; Anne Hall, 2; Emily Win, 3. Fifth Class: Frank Snook, 1; Frank Win, 2. A certificate for regular attendance was awarded to Louisa Best. At nine o'clock danciug commenced, and continued until the small hours. Everybody was well satisfied with the day's enjoyment. An enternainment, consisting of singing, &c, in which several well known amateurs will take part, will take place in :the Port Fire Brigade Hall this evening. The price of admission is very low, aud this alone should ensure a large attendance. The dramatic entertainment for tho benefit of Mr Gilpin, advertised to take place to-morrow night, has been postponed until Friday in consequence of Messrs Curtis and Sharp's meeting. The attention of Freemasons is directed to the advertisement announcing a Lodge meeting to-night.
