The Taranaki arrived aft Wellington early this morning from Picton: The Albion arrived at the Bluff this morning from Melbourne via Milford Sound with 1 a number of excursionists. A telegram was received on Tuesday night stating that the harque'W. C. Wentworth, which had arrived at Wet-tport from Newcastle with a. cargo : of timber on board for the railway works, and was waiting a chauce to cross the bar;- had lost her anchor and chain in a S.W. gale, and had stood on for Nelson. Her arrival may therefore be expected here, at any time. The Union Company's s.s. Wellington came into harbor early this morning from Picton and South. She left Wellington at midnight on Tuesday, and arrived at Picton afc 5*30 a.m.; sailed for Nelson. at 7 a.m., and arrived off the Lighthouse at 4*45 p.m. yesterday, too late for the tide. From Picton experienced a strong S.W. wind, through which the steamier forced her way well, though it required the whole of her steaming qualities ito drive -.her up against it. The Wellington brought a large number of passengers for Nelson. She sailed North at 4 p.m.~ to-day. ' '*- . The" cutter Maid of Italy is making some good trips across the Bay, having made two already, this week. She arrived last evening from Riwaka, the strong S.W. wind that was blowing having brought her across at a spanking rate. The Wallace left Nelsou at 7 ; 30 p.m. on the 19th, and experienced fine weather until abreast of Stephen's Island at 2 a.m. next, day, when she encountered a strong southerly burster, which accompanied her across the Straits; crossed the Wanganui bar at 11 a.m. through, a heavy surf, a couple of ,'green fellows tumbling on board, aud creating some confusion among the passengers. Shipped a j quantity of wool and left at 115 p.m. on i the 21st; experienced strong westerly winds , until arrival at Wellington at 6 a.m. on the 22nd. On the 25th 3teamed alongside the ship Leicester and received 70 immigrants, leaving at. 3-20 p.m., but on . entering the Straits the sea was found to be so heavy that the Wallace had to beat a retreat, anchoring in IjSvans' Bay until 9*30 p.m., when another start was made; had S.W. winds, yrhich continued;., until arrival* here to-day "at I*3o p.m. She will sail for West Coast ports to-jiight.
