FEMININE TOUTERS.

The Washington correspondent of the New, York Times gives the following amusing accounts of the lengths to which the female correspondents of the country press will go in touting for 'thje invitations to the entertainments given - at the capital: — One of the Foreign Minister^ here was quite concerned today because of a missive which he had : received from a person to him unknown, and which read thus *— ' The lady .sorreßprindent^ of the—— presents her 'compliments. to tbe „-— — Mioialer, and

requests an invitation to go to a ball,) wbioh she understands he is about toi give. She wishes it to be understood! that she has no personal desire to be; present, but the readers of the — — — have a right to know what is going on at tbe metropolis of their country, and it is her duty to inform them. It is to be hoped that the necessary facilities will be granted and the obligation will be increased by an account of your wife's dress, some details of whieh may be otherwise overlooked/ It wasj amusing to witness the embarrassment! whieh this epistle had caused the ra-] cipient, wbo did not wish, in dispensing; his hospitalities to offend the readers of; the — — — . When at last he comprehended the situation, after the explanations made to him he dryly remarked : — ' And for what do you have that large insane asylum, if such people are allowed to roam and write?' Certain it is tbat the invitation will not be sent, but whether the ' lady correspondent' will not smuggle herself in under the wing of soma unsuspeoting representative from the far West or the; distant South, no one ean predict." i
