The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1873.

A numbee of letters coming in late in the . day have compelled us. to shut, oat " The Week," and other matters. '■ ' ' Mr Curtis at Bstjnnerton. — We learn (hat Mr Curtis held a most successful meeting at Brunberton last night, when about forty were present. A vote of confidence in him was passed, only two hands being held up against it. Misrepbesentation. — Under this heading there appears as an advertisement in to-day's* issue two paragraphs concerning Mr O'Conor's meeting at Motueks. We really are very sorry that the correspondent of the Colonist has been guilty of such misrepresentation, and that he will be more careful for the future, because ae the advertisement, in copy-book style, says " A cause gains nothing by misrepresentation." Artillery Entertainment. — The Artillery Company's second entertainment was given last night to another crowded house. Thfi songs, choruses, and recitations, of which the first part was composed, 'were capitally given, the singing, of the ladies, especially, calling forth general approbation ; nor must we omit to mention the performances of the band, which promises to be a great acquisition to the town of Nelson, The comedy went off most successfully, the actors apparently have gained additional confidence since their last appearance on the stage. Taken as a whole, no entertainment could possibly have passed off more satisfactorily. Nelson Exhibition. — The Secretary complains that although applications have been made for nearly all the space at the disposal of the Committee, the exhibits are beiDg held back until the last moment, and he wiehes intending exhibitors to remember that unless their contributions are received before noon on Monday they will run the risk of not being classified and consequently of not being awarded prizes The pro* gramme for the various days has been published, and visitors who wili not be able to attend during the whole time the Exhibition, is- open, can select (or themselves the day on which the greatest at- - tractions are offered to them. There Will be instrumental music at intervals each day, and on Wednesday evening theie will be plee singing commencing at 7 p.m. and on Thursday operatic selections^ both conducted by Mr Walcot who has kindly offered hie valuable services for the occasion. The Committee will take it as a gre|at favor if those who have in their gardens and grounds an abundance of evergreens or flowers, will on Tuesday morning Bend down to the Government Buildings as much of either or both m they cansparle, as they are greatly needed for the ornamentation of the anuexes, ! :: .■■ ■ • i
