April 19.—Felix Kabat, stockbroker,; has been arrested for altering bills of exchange drawn by Mr Willam, a solicitor. He was committed for trial, bail being accepted in £4000. Other charges are pending, and his total delinquencies are said to amount to nearly £30,000. The Lorine, a French transport, with. 500 Communists on board, put into Queenscliff short of medicines and provisions. Four hundred of the passengers were suffering from scurvy. There were 3000 volunteers at the Easter encampment.
