Wellington, April 26. The Independent to-day says that the Government do not regard Sullivan's murder aa a political offence. The party of natives who shot him would have shot any other European indifferently, and the only embarraesment which the murder is likely to cause the Government is that the pursuance of the criminals may possibly lead to dii-tinct issues. The Government have invited the assistance of well-disposed natives in the cause of Jaw and order. Several influential chiefs have volunteered their services to communicate with the Maori King with the object of securing the capture of the murderers. The leader of the gang, by his neglect to attend the "Native Land Court had been exempted from the list of Natives interested in the block of land, and his name was not included in the Crown Grant.
