City Election. — The writ has been issued for this election, and the nomination has been appointed tQ take place on the sth May, and the polling, if necessary, on the Bth. It is expected that Mr Adams will be returned without opposition. The Nelson Harmonic Society at its usual quarterly private concert last evening performed Weber's Mass in G, and a miscellaneous selection. The Mass, which had been practised under peculiar difficulties, was, taking this circumstance into account, highly successful. The choruses ia the second part, most of them sung for the first time, were exceedingly well executed, and of the solos we can only say they were judiciously selected, and so well rendered that all deserve honorable mention. A fantasia for the piano, tbe theme from the Opera of JDon Pasquale was much applauded, as was also a flute solo " Rye bloom," and the concert on the whole appeared to give general satisfaction. - t Next Wednesday's Ceremony.—-- We are glad to learn that his llonor ihe Superintendent haß telegraphed to the Premier, who is at present in Auckland, and will be returning to Wellington in the Luna about Monday, inviting him to turn the first sod of the Nelson and West ; Coast Railway on Wednesday next. ~"Mr Yogel has shown every disposition _to encourage: the carrying out of the scheme into "which the people of. jelson have so * heartily entered, andiwhen he sees, as he * will do on Wednesday Bhould he accede to
