Friday, February 9, 1872. All the members present. Tho deputation who had waited upon the Superintendent with reference to the prison labor reported that they had been informed by his Honor that the direction of it lay solely with the Provincial Secretary, to whom the Secretary would, for the future, have to apply. The Chairman and Secretary were appointed to wait upon the Rev. G. H. Johnstone and to inform him that unless the gorse hedge round the Parsonoge grounds were removed within a week's time the Board would order the removal of the wooden fence from the footpath. The discussion of the sewage question was again postponed until the Solicitor's written opinion had been obtained. On the resolution of Mr. Dodson it was resolved that permission be asked of tbe Provincial Government to widen the road near the Post Office. The Surveyor was instructed to form _ temporary drain across Waimea-street near the Golden Fleece Hotel. Permission was granted to Mr. Oakey to erect a verandah in front of his shop in Bridge-street on condition that it was not to be removed without the permission of the Board. The Surveyor was instructed to place a stone drain across the Port Road near Mr. Akerstan's old store. The Board then adjourned until Friday evening, the 16 inst.
