On Saturday last the annual meeting of electors to elect members to fill the vacancies in the Richmond local Committee of Education took place afc the Agricultural Hall at noon. The Rev. W. Lewis having been chosen as chairman, on the motion of Mr Barnicoat, stated that there were four members to be elected in the room of those who had.retired by rotation, viz.: — Messrs Youug, Brock, Saywell, and Thompson. The following were then proposed as candidates : — the Rev. W. Lewis, proposed by Mr Harkness, and seconded by Mr C. Best; MrW. Best, proposed by Mr Bartlett, and seconded by Mr Sheet; Mr Charles Saywell, proposed by Mr F. Bonnington, and seconded by Dr Laking; Mr T. J. Thompson, proposed by Mr Connell, and seconded by Mr

Lechner; Mr T. Sheet, proposed by Mr C. Saywell, and seconded by Mr T. Saywell; Mr T. Young, proposed hy Mr W. Lawsou, and seconded by Mr Gr. White; Mr G. A. Brock, proposed by Mr Petherick, and seconded by Mr Lechner ; Mr S. E. Gapper, proposed by Mr Sheet, and seconded by MrH. Sutton; Mr T.Mercer, proposed by Mr C. Best, and seconded byMr W. Best; and Mr F. Bonnington, proposed by Mr T. Saywell, and seconded by Mr G. Gifford. A show of hands then took place and resulted in the following numbers :— The Rev. W. Lewis, 35 ; Messrs W. Best, 24 ; Charles Saywell, 24 ; T. J. Thompson, 21 ; T. Sheet, 20; T, Young, 16; G. A. Brock, 14 ; S. E. Gapper, 14 ; F. Bonnington, 12, and T. Mercer, 12. The Rev. W. Lewis, and Messrs W. Best, C. Saywell, and Thompson were therefore declared duly elected. The meeting was unusually well attended, and at its cou elusion a vote of thanks waa passed to the chairman, whose presence on this occasion appeared to give very great satisfaction. The new committee then held its first meeting, and appointed Mr Harkness as its representative at the Central Board, and Mr Barnicoat as its Secretary. It will be seen from an advertisement in another column that the foundation stone of All Saints' Church, the design for which was noticed in these columns, will be laid with the usual ceremonial, by the Right Rev. Bishop Suter, on Friday the 26th inst. at 2 p.m. A sacred concert, in aid of the funds for the erection of this Church is announced to take place the same evening:. We learn that Captain Kenny was returned Member for Picton, m the House of Representatives, on Thursday last. He was unopposed, Dr. Sickler having retired from the contest. Mr and Mrs J. Hall give an entertainment this evening, at the Oddfellows' Hall, which will, we believe, be positively their last appearance in Nelson, under tho patronage of his Honor the Superintendent, Sir David Monro, and the members of the Masonic Body. The programme includea their original sketch, 'The Seven Ages of Man,' illustrated from the works of Charles Dickens, and the operetta of ' Terrible Hymen,' the libretto by Gilbert A'Beckett, and the music by Emile Jonas, the rival of Offenbach, the most popular composer of buffo opera at the present day. We trust that, better late than never, the Nelson public will show their appreciation of these clever artistes by a crowded house this evening. We are requested to remind the members of the Artillery Volunteer Corp s that the election of a second Lieutenant, vice Wilkie, resigned, takes place this evening, at the Nelson Hotel, at half-past 7 o'clock. The monthly meeting of the Permanent Building Society takes place this evening, at the Temperance Hall at 6 o'clock, and the money sold at half-past 8..
