The West Coast Times says : Our attention has been called, within the last few days, to the case of a debtor at present confined in the new gaol, who has been, there and in the log huts for a period of over three months, for no crime but that of being overtaken by misfortunes and losses.
The factories of Yelbana in the Sherbro, and Sulyma in the Gallinas rivers, upon the West Coast of Africa, are- now in full operation. The sites upon which these factories have been erected were once the strongest holds of the slave trade, and at the Gallinas, a feAv short years ago, a slave factory existed, which has been completely destroyed by the exertions of a Mr. Harris. An American paper supplies the following : — " I don't miss my Church so much as you suppose," said a lady to her minister, who had called upon her during her illness, " for I make Betsy sit up by the window as soon as the bells begin to chime, and tell me Avho are going to church, and whether they have got anything new." Letters received in America from Port au Prince mention a case of " Obeahism," where a party of several persons was discovered feasting on cooked infants.
