TWENTY-FOUR PERSONS CHARGED

"NO RADIO LICENCE" CASES HEARD IN COURT Twenty-four persons were charged in the Rangiora Magistrate’s Court yesterday with having no licence for. their radios. Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M., was on the bench, and Mr R. E. Mackay prosecuted for the Post and Telegraph Department. “What is wrong with the district r” asked the magistrate when se.veral of the cases had been heard. It was a result of systematic checkup, following the end of the licensing year, replied Mr Mackay. In the following "22 cases the defendants were each convicted, fined 5/-, and ordered to pay costs: — Harvey Maitland Burgin, Arthur Croft,' Edward Davis, Glendwr Marcus Morgan, Janies Fraser (Mr E. D. R. Smith), William Hopley, Herbert Kempthorne, Maurice Kennedy, Arthur Kirwan, Reginald Lander, . Jessie Lukey, Hector John MacDonald, Elsie Palmer, William Ernest Power, Dorothy Adelaide Dickie, Lance Hector Eder, Norman Lester Schluter, Leslie Ormond Shirley, Edward Sullivan, Constance Agatha Watson, and Walter Stanley Wright. Bethea Laskey (Mr A. C. Fraser) and Sydney Arnold Murfitt were convictedl and ordered to pay costs only. Traffic Case For driving a motor car without a warrant of fitness, Frederick Hutana was fined 20/- and ordered to pay costs. Inspector I. T. Burgess prosecuted' for the Transport Department. DEFENDED CIVIL CLAIM "It is quite: evident that if there had not been a family disruption, this matter would never have been brought before the Court,” said- the Magistrate when summing , up . a defended civil claim. Frederick George Proffit (Mr E. D. It. Smith) proceeded against liis son-in-law, Erie T. Allen (Mr A. C. Fraser) for the recovery of two coils of wirenetting or their value. The plaintiff was non-suited, and costs were allowed l in the favour of the defendant. H. Hamilton was ordered to pay W. E. Charles forthwith the sum of £4/10/in default four day#" imprisonment. Judgment for plaintiff by default was allowed in a claim, Dwyer Bros. v. It. Crofts for £6/15/-.
