Obituary
MRS JOHN THOMAS The death occurred last Friday, at the residence of her son, Mr S. Thomas, West Belt, of Mary, widow of the late John Thomas, late of Lincoln, at the age of 78 years. Born at Lurgan, near Belfast, Mrs Thomas left Ireland at th© age of 14 years in a sailing ship which took three months to reach New Zealand, and has lived most of her life in Lincoln, being one of the oldest residents there.
She leaves a family of six children — Mr Thomas pre-deceasing her seven years ago, from which time Mrs Thomas has lived with her daughter in Church Street. The children are: Mrs F. Bradshaw (Ashley Bank), Mrs G. Aston (Christchurch), Mrs Morris (Tauranga), Mrs Dowker (Christchurch), Mrs J. Branthwaite (Church Street), and Mr S. Thomas (West Belt). Before the funeral, which was held on Saturday at the Lincoln Cemetery, a short service was held at her daughter’s residence in Church Street. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Wilson, the Rev. C. L. Sparrow of Lincoln officiating at the graveside. The pall-bearers were her three sonS-in-law and grandson, Messrs Aston, Dalker, Branthwaite, and J. Bradshaw. 4 Many beautiful wreaths were sent.
