THE HEALTH CAMP

West Coast Boys Arrive

VISITORS’ DAY ON SUNDAY 6

Yesterday twelve boys from the West Coast arrived in llangiora by the 5.30 p.m. train and were taken to the Health Camp in cars. One or two of these boys were so little that they stand a good chance of being made camp mascots. The camp is now in full swing, and all arrangements are in good working order. The wet weathei today had demonstrated the suitability of the site chosen, for the boys had ample room on the big grandstand for play, and there was no inconvenience from water lying on the grounds, owing to the high and dry nature ef the surroundings. The following additional donations are acknowledged with thanks:— Droids’ Lodge ... £2 2 0 Mrs M. A. Ellen ... 10 0

If it is a fine day tomorrow (Saturday), the boys will be taken to the beach, leaving at 1 p.m. and returning at about 6 o’clock. Ten cars are required, and car owners who are willing to help are asked to notify the Town Clerk. /

A further appeal is now made to the public for games and books for the youngsters. The need for these will be particularly felt on wet days, when the problem of keeping forty boys occupied will put a big strain on the staff. The most urgent need is for cricket bats, and difficulty is being found in maintaining a sufficient supply of vegetables, gifts of which w'ould be appreciated.

Only four books have so far been given to the camp, notwithstanding appeals to the High and Borough Schools. The Committee does not wish to appeal to Christchurch schools, and there is a fine opportunity here for local boys to help their less fortunate brethren.

Sunday afternoon is visiting day, and an invitation is extended to anyone interested to visit the Camp. The Band will play at the Camp during the afternoon, and cars are again required for transport. Will anyone willing to help please notify the Borough Council offices?
