RESIDENT TUTOR PROPOSAL

A.C.E. Scheme Outlined

WOMEN’S ORGANISATIONS

MEET

A very representative committee of women met in John Knox Hall on Tuesday afternoon to discuss with Miss Violet McMillan, of the A.C.E., Dunedin, the desirability, of providing the services of a resident tutor to be stationed in Rangiora and serve the area from Kaiapoi to Amberley and from the coast to Oxford.

Mrs J. "W. Macleod was voted to the chair and asked Miss McMillan to outline the scheme, and the cost of applying it successfully. It was proposed to give up to four lectures in each Division and Institute during the year, at a cost of 10/-each.

Classes in “Homecraft,” “Diet,” “Dressmaking,” etc., were proposed, where wanted, at ap individual cost of £1 per course, the tutor to visit each centre as needed.

A “Town Day,” to be observed on Market Day, was part of the scheme. Here advice, consultations on home and shopping problems, etc., would be given free to all women applying for help. After a full discussion, it was decided that enough support was promised to warrant the adoption of the scheme.

It was then decided that the committee meet again on February 25 to elect an “advisory committee” to work in conjunction with Miss McMillan and the tutor, to engage a room for “Town Day,” etc., and work out the itinerary for the year.
