Things That Matter to Women

It takes a husband a good many years to acquire a working knowledge of the things that matter to women; the learning is delayed by the fact that to him these things seldom seem to matter at all.

At first he is completely baffled by his wife’s queer behaviour, and cannot make head or tail of it. A young friend of mine, but recently married, rang his wife from the office one even-

ing and asked permission to stay late in town because some of his colleagues at the firm were celebrating the birthday of one of them. The permission was granted readily, and the husband cut his evening short for that very reason. As a matter of fact the others Averen’t sorry lo see him go, for he had bored them all by recounting what a jolly good sport his wife was. When he got home he told her how he had praised her. “I said you were the best little wife in the world/’ he exclaimed proudly. To his amazement her lips began t-o pucker. “D-did you really?” she asked. “Sure!” Then the tears came. “You n-never say things like that in front of me,” she sobbed. That’s women all over. If a wife were to start praising her husband in his presence his collar would go all tight, and he’d try to slink away. But women simply love to bask in an atmosphere of praise. Jealousy matters tremendously to a wife. The biggest mistake a married man can make is to behave broadmindedly.
