WAIKUKU BEACH

Water Supply Scheme

TENDER ACCEPTED : WORK COMMENCED

No time is being lost by those in charge of the scheme to provide a high pressure water supply for the Waikuku Beach settlement. Although a tender for the reticulation of the settlement was accepted only on Saturday evening, work began yesterday and it is expected that the supply will be available on December 17. The provision of a high pressure supply has been under consideration for some time, but efforts by the Rangiora-Waikuku Beach Domain Board were handicapped by lack of financial assistance from lease-holders. The Beach Improvement Association recently made another appeal to leaseholders, however, and as a result considered there was sufficient support to warrant a start being made with the scheme. A fortnight ago the Board authorised the Association to proceed with the reticulation, and tenders were called. Six tenders were considered at a meeting at the beach on Saturday evening, presided over by Mr C. L. Dalzell (president of the Improvement Association). There were present representatives of the Improvement Association, the Domain Board, and the Leaseholders’ Association. The tender of Mason, Struthers, and Company, Ltd., for the reticulation, and provision for pumping equipment, was accepted. The whole scheme, including the price of the tender, will cost between £575 and £6OO.

PLANS FOR GALA Plans for the annual gala at the beach on Boxing Day were made at a meeting of the Waikuku Beach Improvement Association at the beach on Saturday evening. The president (Mr C. L. Dalzell) presided, there being an attendance of about 30. It was decided to have the usual attractions, and officials were appointed to control the sports and sideshows. ODDFELLOWS’ LODGES RITUAL CONTEST Results of the district ritual competition held by the Ashley District, M.U.1.0.0.F., this year for the first time have been announced. Loyal Woodend Lodge won the contest, Loyal Leithfield Lodge was second, and Loyal Itangiora Lodge third.
