HIGH SCHOOL BALL AT RANGIORA

Old Scholars’ Reunion VISITORS PRESENT FROM FAR AND NEAR The annual re-union ball of the Rangiora High School Ex-pupils’ Association is the one big event of the year at which old scholars can renew friendships and discuss their school days, and this year opportunity was taken by many former pupils from all over Canterbury and even from Blenheim and other parts to attend. Over three hundred dancers were present at the Parish Hall on Wednesday night, and the function was both socially and financially a success. The hall was gaily decorated in the School colours with green and gold streamers and wattle branches, while novel notices were displayed on the walls. The supper room became the “Domestic Science Department,” the cloak rooms were “Girls’ and Boys’ Dormitories,” and the Lounge was the “Head’s Study.” Tho guests of honour were Mr and Mrs G. C. Beattie and Mr and Mrs A. L. Lockhart, representing the staff of the school.

Complete arrangements for the ball were made by the committee, consisting of Mr J. W. (Stanton (chairman), Misses B. Marshall, N. Stevenson, B. Gulliver, T. Edlin, and H. Mclntosh, Messrs E. H. T. Rands, J. L. Stevenson, J. F. Gulliver, R. S'. Thwaites, K. G. Taylor, Y. J. Corbett, D. Smith, and A. G. Banfield. The. catering was carried out by the Gray Raven, Kaiapoi.

Music was provided without charge by an orchestra which included old pupils of the school. They were Mrs A. J. Breach (piano), Mr A. J. Breach (violin), Mr J. C. Hancox (violin), Mr Geo. Harlow (string bass), Mr C. Knight (cornet), and Mr C. Green (drums and effects). Extras were played by Miss Dorothy Brady (piano) and Mr Len Ching (violin). Messrs J. F. Gulliver and A. G. Banfield were masters of ceremonies.
