Obituary

MR G. K. CRYSELL. The death of the late Mr George K. Crysell occurred on Wednesday last under tragic circumstances. Born in Cust in 1866, he resided in the CustWest Ej r reton district all his life. Until about nineteen years ago he was engaged in farming. Since his retirement from this he followed an active public life, taking a leading part in all movements for the welfare and advancement of the district. He was a Justice of the Peace, a Past District Grand Master and a trustee of the Cust Lodge M.U.1.0.0.F., and was also a member of the Mairaki Masonic Lodge. For many years he was a member of the Rangiora County Council, and the Cust Domain Board. At the time* of his death he was the chairman of the Cust Cemetery Board, a position he held for more than 35 years.

The late Mr Crysell was a member of the committee responsible for the erection of the West Eyreton hall, opened on March 25, 1898, and he was a member of the first Public Library Committee at West Eyreton. He was a past president of the Oust Football Club, Hockey Club, and the Young Men’s Club. Last year he was the recipient of a King George V. Jubilee medal.

Widely known and highly respected, his untimely end has caused regret in a very wide circle of friends. He leaves a widow, two daughters (Mrs It. Brunsden, Cust, and Mrs T. A. Coulter, Christchurch), and one sister (Mrs J. Skurr, Christchurch).
