PERSONAL.— Mrs G. Smith, Ashburton, is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. Baxter, “Currielea,” Main Street. Miss E. G. McDonald, of the local school staff, has received notice of her transfer to Timaru.
Mrs Hack, Kaiapoi, is staying Avith Mrs S. Maddison, Main Street. Mr and Mrs C. W. Anderson, High Street, left on Friday for a tour of the Southern Lakes. Mrs H. C. D. Somerset has returned to Oxford, and is staying Avith the Rev. H. F. and Mrs Ault, Church St. Miss M. Murphy, AVho has been in Christchurch for the Blunden-Moor-house Avedding, returned to Oxford today.
Mr E. Bateman, Avho has been visiting his parents at RiA r erton, returned to Oxford yesterday. Friends of Mr G. F. Howard, High Street, Avill regret to learn that he is again a patient in the Oxford Hospital.
CAR DESTROYED BY FIRE.— On their return from a trip to Cheviot oA*er the Easter vacation Mr and Mrs R. Ffitch, VieAV Hill, had the misfortune to lose their car and a considerable quantity of personal belongings, through fire. It is not knoAvn hoAV the fire originated, but it is thought to have been caused by a fuse. Fortunately the car Avas not garaged at the time of the outbreak, otherAVise Mr Ffitch Avould have been a heavy loser, since the garage adjoins the house.
Mrs Ffitch lost a baby carriage and a quantity of clothing, which had been left in the car.
DEER STALKING.— Oxford is the centre of activity for large parties of deer stalkers at present. The deer are plentiful ill the back country and Lees Yalley, and sportsmen report good bags.
