GIRL GUIDES.

NORTH CANTERBURY DISTRICT. The following Guiders have recently passed the required tests for their warrants : Miss D. Cambridge, Captain Ist Rangiora High School, Miss M. ' Phillips, Lieutenant Ist Kaiapoi. District Camp. Daring guide week-end eight guiders and thirty-five guides held a camp at the Kaiapoi Girl Guide Clubroom, where a great deal of fun was crowded into two days. The Commandant was Miss J. Dunlop; Quartermaster, Miss M. Phillips; and all companies in the district were represented: Ist Kaiapoi, Ist Belfast, 2nd Amberley, Ist Woodend and Ist Rangiora High School. Camp opened on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the hoisting of the Colour. Later the camp marched to the War Memorial Garden where a kowhai tree was planted, to commemorate the 21st birthday of the Guide Movement. Every guide present took' some part in the planting, and Miss Blackwell, District Commissioner, expressed the thanks of the guides to the Kaiapoi Beautifying Association for the splendid site kindly given by them. Mr. J. Hirst, President, responded on behalf of the Association. In the evening the first district • camp fire was held, the programme including items from various companies, and much, singing. Everyone then “ turned in ” on their straw mattresses and, as in every first night ini camp, there was a lot to be talked over before “Taps” sent some of the camp at least to sleep. Sunday, May 29th, was “Guide Sunday ” in all parts of the world. In the morning guides attended their early church services and later an enrolment ceremony'took place at the camp, Miss Blackwell enrolling four new guides. The members of the Kaiapoi committee and guides’ mothers entertained the various members of the camp to dinner in. their homes, which was much enjoyed by iall and was a great help to the camp staff. In the afternoon a thanksgiving service was held in tlie Methodist Church, to which were invited members of all company committees, parents, the Kaiapoi scout troop, cub pack, and brownies. Over eighty guides paraded ana a service specially arranged for the Dominion was conducted by Rev. 0. Burnet, who spoke to the guides on the history and ideals of their worldwide sisterhood which now exceeds one million members. Later the visiting committees were entertained to tea in the company headquarters, and, with many new friendships formed, the camp dispersed.

A Masquerade Ball in aid of the St. John Ambulance Uniform Fund will be held to-night in the Orange Ha-11, Kaiapoi.
