Fire Destroys Sheep Station House

TIMARU. Wed. (P.A.)—-A homestead at Glentanner Station, deep in the Mackenzie country was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Christmas morning. The manager and his family, who escaped in their nightclothes, lost all their possessions in the blaze.

When the lire was discovered by the manager (Mr G. W. K. Stirling!, it had gained a strong hold and there was just time to leave before the flames swept through the building. The home was valued at £ISOO. Glentanner Station is well-known to tourists, as it is the last sheep station on the Lake Pukaki-Hermitage Road, 14 miles from the hostel. It was an eight-roomed wooden and sod building. the original portion being about 80 years old.

A motor cyclist was killed near Westport yesterday when his machine crashed on a bend. He was Mr Richard James Love, aged 21, of 59 Tasman Street, Wellington. Mr Love was killed instantly when he failed to negotiate the bend from Ohiro Bay Road into Happy Valley Road. The machine struck the concrete kerbing and crashed into a wall.
